The Campaign
The application to register the name ‘Stornoway
Black Pudding’ as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) has been
submitted to the Scottish Government and you may have seen from the
local press that a public consultation has been launched to allow
interested parties to comment on the application.
This process has to be conducted
before the next stages of the procedure can be considered; i.e.
submission to DEFRA, then submission to the European Commission for
approval
The consultation document can be accessed
here
We intend to respond to the consultation, and in
doing so, will enclose the signatures we have received on our i-petition.
If you have not already signed the i-petition we would encourage you
to do so.
However if you have already signed, we would be
grateful if you would encourage friends, family and work colleagues
to sign up and support the cause!
Submissions to the consultation have to be lodged
by 5pm on Friday 4 March 2011 so please sign up now.

The text of the petition reads :
"We support our local
butchers and back calls for Stornoway Black Pudding to
be granted Protected Geographical Indication (PGI)
status by the European Commission."

You can watch a feature on the BBC
Scotland programme, Homemade, dealing with the
campaign to protect the local identity of the
Stornoway Black Pudding. The feature begins at
around 6 minutes 15 seconds on the time slider and includes an
interview with Rhoda Grant MSP >>>
